What is his best film?
I think Rosemary's Baby is his best film. What about you?
share1. Chinatown.
I'd rank Rosemary's Baby second.
Chinatown easily.
But The Tenant, The Pianist, and Carnage are also awesome.
Knife in the Water, Repulsion or Rosemary's Baby.
shareRosy, of course, but I really enjoyed Bitter Moon, which is criminally underrated.
shareThe Pianist
shareI enjoyed the movie Tess.
share"Rosemary's Baby" is effective enough, but too one-dimensional for my tastes with practically the entire story taking place inside the old gothic apartment building in New York City.
"The Fearless Vampire Killers" is surprisingly meh. If I want a entertaining picture like that I'll go with one of Elvira's two movies or "Young Frankenstein."
So I cast my vote for "Tess."
1. The Ninth Gate
2. Chinatown
3. Repulsion
4. Rosemary's Baby
5. The Fearless Vampire Killers
The Pianist is well made but too boring and a one-and-done type of film, I've no interest in ever watching it again. I've seen The Ninth Gate as many times as I've seen Chinatown, Rosemary's Baby, The Pianist & Repulsion put together. It's the clear front runner. On a technical level I can see why people would put Chinatown and The Pianist above it but rewatchability is arguably the most important aspect of a film for me and The Ninth Gate has it in spades.
