The headline is misleading as they don't explain why Luke was exclude. They just say nothing really.

Hmmm...I'm not currently able to watch TV right now, and would likely skip the Oscars anyway (I'm not much into watching awards shows, just hearing the results), but the omission of Luke Perry seems glaring to me. Yeah, maybe he wasn't controversial enough, I wouldn't rule out that possibility.
