BH, 90210 Dylan's Porsche.

I am sure all of u guys remember Dylan was drivin a 1960's Porsche. Does anyone know the exact model of that car ? Please Anyone! I am crazy about that car !

It is a 1950s Porsche 356 Speedster, very similar to what James Dean was driving when he was killed, except that Deans was modified for racing . I believe the 356 was built from 54-58.

I must correct myself here Perry's car is indeed a 356 Speedster, but Dean was driving a Porsche 550 Spider when he was killed. The 550 is very nice car in its own right you should check it out. There are plenty of images of both cars on google image search.

mike thanks a lot.. yes but.. I remember there was an episode when Dylan was driving his Porsche..and at a stop sign..he ended up between two newer sport cars..at the green light, his car crashed. At a repair shop..a garagge The guy there..I remember telling him something like.."..yes Dylan..but for a 1960' Porsche..' Could that have been a mistake ?

It's a 1961 Speedster. I don't know of any model number from there. I recall the mechanic saying '61 and then later when Dylan sold his car in a 1998 episode, he wrote '61 Speedster on the cardboard he placed on the dashboard.

Update: After asking a Porsche enthusiasist through his website, he determined that it cannot be a '61 because the 356 Speedster (which he said the photos I provided definitely showed) was made July 1954 - August 1959. He could not tell me an exact year because the photos I had did not show the angles he would need to make that assessment.

I'll go back and check my tapes of those two scenes that I know about to see if it was '61 that was stated and written.

He sold his Porsche in the serial...:( Not a good move..that car was a classic...also..might want to click that the Porsche is also present in TopGun...and by the way..why did he sell his car in the 1998 episode ?

reply

he sold the car because it was the same car his wife was shot in and he didn't want the memory...

I checked the scene where Dylan made the "for sale" sign, he marked it as being a '56 Speedster there. But, in the other scene, the mechanic said '61.

I mentioned sending photos to a Porsche enthusiasist, however, due to the photos not showing the complete car he could not provide many details including exact model year. Here's what he did tell me:

He found it curious that in the photos I provided that the car had no windshield wipers. He also mentioned a sort of grille right behind the front lid - saying it was not original. He said it did not have the typical hood behind the instruments as well and no rearview mirror (checking several episodes, the mirror is missing often). He said altogether he believed that the car was either restored pretty bad or it is a later model which was eventually turned into a fake Speedster. It might even be a Replica model.

I thought I'd share this bit of info he provided as well:

The Speedster itself was actually designed to be a lower cost, no-frills version especially for the American market in California. Other models like the Cabriolet and the Coupe were available too, but more expensive. By now, the Speedster has become a true classic and is now more expensive than almost all other versions!

He also mentioned the Speedster in Top Gun. I've asked him if he could provide any info on that one.

If anyone knows how to make screencaps and can get complete clear shots of Dylan's Porsche, please get in touch with me so I can pass the photos on for more info.

This is a pretty useless fact, but you can drive that very Porsche in that very colour in GTA: Vice City only it's called a 'Comet'.
