nokamie hey nice insight, im a fan of Luke Perry and I really think he is the best actor out of all of them. Seeing his departure in the episode One Wedding a Funeral clearly showed the guy can act and he's not just a pretty face.
- but here's the thing. IF he left after season 2 while the show's early success was so hot, do you know how many loyal fans would probably stop watching? A lot, thus the rating could possibly go down. Meaning Arron Spelling and the creators would have to wave tons more money in his face to stay. This happens all the time on tv series when a popular actor and character leaves or wants to leave the show.
- people need to understand its not that Luke, and many other good looking actors try to avoid their young attractive image, they just accept it, and hope to take better and more challenging roles. Its all about the craft of acting and taking what you can get for the paycheck, and hoping that one big role does come along that breaks them out of that boyish image. For Luke, it unfortunately never came.
...So Luke stayed like the rest of them did until that Season 6 when his wife was killed in that episode. Only to return later on. I just think he chose smaller roles because no big name movie studio or director would give him a chance. His small role in The 5th Element was the biggest budgeted movie he's ever done, but again that was a small role. I wish he was in that movie more.
...imagine Luke acting opposite Leonardo DiCaprio or Robert DeNiro, that I would pay to see.
