There have always been unconventional beauties working in Hollywood, yet they don't get bashed. (Look at Uma Thurman and Christina Ricci.)

The reason why SJP always gets bashed is that she was the very definition of a "tryhard" during her Sex in the City days, behaving and acting as if she was in the same league of the likes of Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Gwyneth Paltrow, and so many A List beauties by wearing lots of high end designer clothing and pimping for cosmetics and hair products.

You can wear and show off all the Prada shoes and Coco Chanel bags you want, but no amount of that kind of stuff is going to magically make you drop dead gorgeous. I think people resented that and started tearing her down because of it, which she richly deserved.

I actually think SJP is a lot more attractive than Angelina Jolie and just as attractive as the other two. God forbid a woman you consider unattractive should wear nice clothes and promote cosmetics!

To the OP, I don't think your narrative around backlash around her is correct. We live in a time of extremes and the culture, for all it's superficial embracing of differences and being tolerant, has never been more intolerant. She was a hit 15 years ago before the obsession with botox and plastic surgery becoming very common. People thought of her as stylish and lively but now those things take a backseat to a flawless face. Personality can't get you as far these days.

Yes, she was a "hit", but the backlash against SJP started exactly around her SITC days, even though she had been on TV and in movies for years before that show became popular.

Oh, is that what I said? I thought I said that SJP was trying too hard to come off as exceptionally beautiful by wearing flashy designer clothing all the time. Not even Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lopez, Halle Berry, Charlize Theron, etc. make a big show of walking around in ostentatious designer clothing 24/7 for every single event, but that's because they have nothing to prove.

Why does that warrant people saying hateful stuff about her? Maybe she just likes to wear it to fell nice or good about herself. I think hiding behind a computer and bashing someone for stupid reasons is much worse.
