Being a fan of that show, I don't think so. Maybe your thinking about Mark Hamill who appeared in an episode as Schneider's nephew.

Actually, I think you saw Scott Jacoby - who does bear a slight resemblance to Modine...

Nope, it was definitely Mark Hamill NOT Scott Jacoby.

You may be thinking Boyd Gaines they look alike back in the 80's he play Barbara husband Mark Royer. He look nothing like Scott Jacoby.

No I think he's being confused with the son of actress Jean Stapleton who played Edith on All In The Family. He had a crush on Barbara in the earlier years of the show.Her son is actor John Putch. He played a nerdy guy named Bob Morton and imdb is incorrect.He was in more than 1 episode.There is no way you can confuse Scott,Mark & Mathew.Scott Jacoby is 5'9,Mark Hamill is 5'9 while Mathew Modine is 6'3.Besides his career started with him being cast in films.
