His book

I wanted to know how good his book is (about filming 'full metal jacket'). I want to know what it was like to work for Kubrick since he sometimes does 100 takes.

I haven't read the book yet, but I got it tonight when I met Matt. He discussed his film career at the Hartford stage. He even signed my book. He only had 20,000 made and you can register it at fullmetaljacketdiary.com

Too bad you can't post pic here. I have a pic of the two us and i'm holding the book btw us.

Jedi,

I thought the book was terrific. At times, Modine discusses Kubrick in such a way that "Stanley" comes across like a normal chap who maybe works a little too hard. Then there are moments where even Modine seems to be wondering what planet the guy's from.

Loads of great stories from the film's production. Quick example RE: Kubrick's legendary perfectionism. Remember the scene in FMJ when Modine/Joker goes up to Arliss Howard/Cowboy and says something like "Hey, what are we, lost?" Cowboy tells him to shut up. IIRC, it took almost a week of filming to get that short sequence exactly the way Kubrick wanted.
