...that in the Spiderwick Chronicles he plays a guy named Richard, and in Weekend At Bernie's he tried out for the part as Richard, but got the part as Larry instead.

I read and collect any clippings on Andrew that I can find. I remember reading in one of those clippings that when Andrew first auditioned for a part in Weekend at Bernie's, he was not auditioning for the part as Larry. The article did not say what part Andrew was auditioning for. It did say however, that when they saw how good an actor Andrew McCarthy really is, they let him select the character that he wanted to play. Andrew chose the part as Larry.
