shareYes. I think he is great....especially in comedy. I have not seen him in ages, and that is why I looked him up on the web, to see what was happening with him.
shareI do. He is subtle and intelligent and has a pathos--in comedy or drama---that, for me, makes him believable and memorable. He has a seriousness that causes you to think of him as an artist, not a celebrity, and lends a feeling of importance to his projects. Long after viewing one of his films, I can remember a specific glance or movement he used to bring meaning and life to a scene.
shareAndrew McCarthy is my favorite actor. I have been a fan of his for less than one year. The first time I saw Andrew was in Kingdom Hospital in June 2007 and absolutely fell in love with him as an actor. I thought to myself who on earth is Andrew McCarthy? I've never heard of this person before. So I googled his name on the Internet and found his website. (Then I realized that I had seen Weekend At Bernie's, St. Elmo's Fire, and Mannequin). I have since purchased every movie he has made that came out on DVD or VHS.
To answer your question. My honest opinion is that Andrew McCarthy is the greatest actor of all the actors around today. Here are my reasons.
First off when Andrew is acting he is an artist not a celebrity. What I mean by that is that most celebrities have an "aura" around them that says "I am a great actor and I know it" or "I am good looking and I know it" or both. I'm not saying this is intentional, it's just a feeling that I get from other actors but not from Andrew McCarthy. To me Andrew is the kind of person who wakes up in the morning, goes to work (acting) and then goes home. Acting is his way of making a living, and something he is very good at.
On top of that he has a unique way of completely becoming absorbed in the character that he is playing. I noticed that after the third movie I watched. I usually don't remember the name of the characters played, just the name of the actor. With Andrew I remember the names of his characters even if I have only seen the movie once. Not many actors have that ability, to completely immerse themselves in their characters like Andrew McCarthy does.
The third reason that Andrew is such a great actor is that he is so intense and flexible in the parts that he plays. I have seen Andrew with long hair, short hair, military haircut, mustache, beard, body piercings (artificial of course) in New World Disorder. He spoke with an accent in Heaven Must Wait. I'll be watching a movie and my husband will come in the room and ask "who is that"? to which I answer, "It's Andrew McCarthy".
I mentioned intense. I only have to see a head shot to know what his character is feeling or thinking. He does a great deal of acting with his eyes and face. If you don't believe me, watch Dream Man. Towards the end of the movie just before his gets himself killed, he is crying in front of the detective. Without changing scenes, you can see him stop crying, wipe the tears from his eyes, and put a totally evil and hateful expression on his face. It's like he morphs right in front of the camera. Actually that is exactly what he does.
The icing on the cake is that Andrew has beautiful eyes and is a very handsome man.
I hope he does more movies in the future.
Andrew is HOT STUFF!
Seriously, he is an amazing actor.... love all his work!
..and him!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
