Why doesn't he stay on shows?

I'm a huge fan of parks and rec, and have seen it start to finish countless times. I love Lowe in it. I also just started The West Wing and am already on season 2, and think it's great, but I was saddened to learn that Lowe leaves that show too.

Is there a particular reason that he doesn't stick around on shows?

I also think his new show the grinder is hilarious, but I don't think it'll get even a second season, but I would've been interested to see if he would've stuck with it if it was successful.

In the case of The West Wing, he was to be the star, but then they re-tooled it to be an ensemble cast.

Other times it has to do with ego, sometimes it is only meant to be a small role, being bored with the direction a character/show is going, getting a better opportunity.

I get the leaving for a better opportunity, but I don't get the "bored" one. At least not when you are making $250k per episode whether or not you are the lead or if you are actually using your skills to their full potential. Not that you should phone it in, but walking away from $250k (or whatever it was per episode) for being in a hit TV show isn't something most normal people can relate to.

They eventually catch on to the fact he can't act.
