Most Underrated Actress Ever

I'm not really a star trek fan or anything (I haven't even seen her in the show, although I realize it's often what she's known for). But I've always hated it that she hasn't been better recognized as she's done consistently great work her entire career, but she nevertheless isn't really a recognizable name to most people (beyond maybe rabid star trek fans).

I first discovered her after seeing her in the Brothers' Quay adaptation of "Jakob Von Gutten" (Institute Benjamentia). She's the best thing about that movie. Seriously. I used to watch the dream sequence scene where she goes mad while the students are humming in the background over and over.

Now it's on youtube, though, so you can watch it for yourselves:

Then I saw her in Guy Maddin's "Twilight of the Ice Nymphs" -which admittedly is his absolute worst film -but she does the best she probably could with the role given her in it (Guy Maddin mentioned in an interview that she was suppossed to be in "Cowards Bend the Knee," but she had to drop out over a scheduling conflict -which sucked, as that was a much better film than "Twilight").

I kind of forgot about her until I saw her guest spot on "Deadwood" -which was amazing enough that I finally got around to looking her up.

So, basically, I just think it sucks that she doesn't get more higher profile work.

Though being a Trek Fan, I can tell you it's not entirely true that she's only known as the Borg Queen. It's definitely her finest hour (and to my delight she recurred in Voyager though only in Endgame, in other episodes another actress would play the Queen). But she has done more, recently Silent Hill but way earlier when I saw her as the Queen I recognized her from Sleepwalkers, in which she played an unforgettable demonic creature (and I think she had a sexy scene with her movie son, Brian Krause, in that film...kinky!).

Yes she is very underrated. It seems she's made for classic evil parts and obviously very apt at playing a twisted villain, or a perverted and dominant mother. Apparrently there are not enough roles like that.

Well, she was never on Star Trek: The Next Generation. They just made up the Borg Queen for the movie First Contact and then had the character return (played by Susannah Thompson (sp?)) in Star Trek: Voyager.

She was also in Chariots of Fire, a decent enough (but IMHO, overrated) movie in which she does a brilliant British accent.

Ghost story & Barfly are great too. Sleepwalkers is a very guilty pleasure. What she does with that corn husk just cracks me up to no end.
