Remember, MOST of us die of addictions

People need to remember that most of us die of addictions -- addictions we're too "selfish" to stop...

The wrong foods clog our hearts, alcohol rots the pancreas and liver, smoking kills the lungs, various other intake errors kill us in other ways.

But those things are socially acceptable.

Yet when someone dies of a non-regulated substance, we tend to feel angrier at "the waste" and at the person for doing themselves in unnecessarily.

But it's not really any different. And we need to remember that.

Heroin is such a bad substance because it seems mild at first, very seductively calming, and often creates a permanent chemical imbalance in the brain almost immediately for many users, leaving the person in a lifelong struggle from then on.

It's easy to sneer at the victim, or to be angry if we've valued him and his work.

But it can't be a fun spiral to suddenly realize you're caught in.

And, yes, it's awful the effect this will have on his children.

Very good point, especially in light of all the judgmental posts.

Some people only have a computer in their house so they can type the sentence, "I just don't have any sympathy for ________________" repeatedly.

How do you even know they were on computer? They can access the internet on consoles, smart phones, tablets, and other mobile devices too you know!

reply

Yes, and all of those devices only exist for them to type, "I just don't have any sympathy for ______________" yet again.

Drinkers LOVE it when a celebrity dies from an OD. It allows them to delude themselves for a while into believing that alcoholics are not the weakest most pathetic creatures on earth. I especially sneer at the drunks that spew the crap about one glass of wine or an occasional beer when we all know NO person who has wine or beer in their house stops at one of either. They MAY take a day off here or there but once they have a glass or a bottle or a can they will have another.

Don't poor eaters behave similarly?

You're being just as judgmental as they are anyway...
