Unlike many other celebrity deaths (even that Star Trek guy only nerds knew), Hoffman was barely on the news when he died. Or just like for one day and then he was forgotten ever since. He was one of the absolute best actors.

shareI remember the coverage of Hoffman's death, but I have no idea who the Star Trek guy is, so in my mind, he got more coverage than the Star Trek guy. Sad to say, unless you are some sort of mega-star, like Elvis or Michael Jackson, your death is only one or two news cycles in all media. In the end, your death is only important for a length of time to your closest relatives and friends. And even they move on eventually.
shareEven Heath Ledger's death had surprisingly huge media coverage and he had a much shorter career (and less Oscars) than Philip. Maybe it's because he was relatively new to showing how great he could really be, where as Philip was consistently great so maybe he stopped surprising people.
