Yes, yes, yes, we're attending a wake here, which makes witnessing Hoffman's skills all the more poignant.

Just take that brief outdoor scene when he's awaiting the arrival of his competitive colleague. Great composition: His rotund body in high contrast to the angular architecture, his still watchfulness contrasting with his avaricious inhalation of cigarette smoke.

Then he sees the man and springs into action: the Game is On. The mere gesture of flicking his cigarette speaks volumes, especially re: his contempt for his antagonist ("Clown").

In the lyrics of another, and lesser, spy movie's theme song, "Nobody Does It Better...."
