Doesn't deserve alimony. It's not designed for that.

just because you can avail yourself to something doesn't mean you have to take it. Alimony ("spouse support" is the new pretty word?) should go to women who have sacrificed while being married, or limited job skills, not to a woman who has her own money and a career.

There is a sense of pride attached to paying your own way. I would feel guilty by accepting alimony because I either spent my money, or have to work at something I don't like.
Her mom thought she was owed something too.

My sister really needed alimony & they didn't even give it to her. She also will not be able to get any of her ex-husband's pension or anything from his social security. She was married for nine years, and she's treated like she was never married. Then someone rich like Melanie can get it & doesn't even need it. My sister didn't even work during her marriage & stayed home raising their child. She has limited job skills also. She's having trouble finding a job. Her ex-husband most of time didn't pay child support, and she couldn't afford to keep hiring attorneys to keep taking him to court.

When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.

Zevan. I'm very sorry that your sister is going through the alimony/child support thing. My daughter went through it with her ex for 13 years, and still has to have the state garnish that POS's paycheck so she can get it when he works. And she's had the same problem with being dragged through the court system every few weeks for some ridiculous reason. I bet she's paid lawyers enough money to buy a house.
I hope your sister's situation gets better. IMHO, all deadbeat dads (or moms) should be dragged behind a car on a gravel road.
It's absolutely absurd for MG to take alimony. Child support, yes. But she can definitely pay her own way without taking money from her exes.
