I have a theory

She seems to suceed in roles where she has "man trouble":

Young Frankenstein: the other woman(even if they didn't elaborate on this), as well as dealing with a driven man.

The Conversation: never saw it, but she says that Gene Hackman and her have a less than truly intimate relationship.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind: BEST EXAMPLE! Grows ailenated (intentional pun) from Richard Dreyfuss as he grows obsessed with ailens (but really, it was just a matter of time...that line, "Remember when we used to come up here and look at ourselves?" and the fight scene are almost painful to watch).

Oh, God: never saw all the way through, but she was doubting John Denver for a while there.

One from the Heart: She and F. Forest are on the outs

Tootsie: OTHER BEST EXAMPLE! Dustin Hoffman downright tortures her, playing with her feelings and what not.

Mr. Mom: She and Michael Keaton struggle with the gender roles (not in reality...both gave flawless performances)

After Hours: She seemed to be a nice girl, and Griffin Dunne blows her off.

Heck, even in Dumb and Dumber: she's the trophy wife (according to the novelization).

I also agree with a previous post: total MILF in a lot of those movies, and even lovely now.

"The sexiest part of a woman is above the waist-- the brain. But the pussy is a close second."

Tracey Ullman (as Madame Nadja)

Hmmm... tough crowd.

I agree with you that she has performed well in roles with "male problems" and her personal life would reflect that she is more familiar with problem relationships than those in "Romeo and Juliet" relationships. I guess the less you have to pretend, the less you have to act.

Regardless, I think she is very, very beautiful, both today and 30 years ago. I enjoy her performances in many movies, but my favorite is Mr. Mom because I am a fan of Michael Keaton and I AM a Mr. Mom. I know it probably wasn't a demanding role for her, but I still like it. I was very impressed with her as a person at a Multiple Sclerosis seminar in KC. She is practical, positive, and realistic all at the same time. When I found out that I have MS, she and David Lander both made me feel like I wasn't alone.

The p*ssy will always challenge the attractiveness of all else in this world. Even if they are not attractive, they're still fun.

Good God, there's a novelization of Dumb and Dumberer? Who said literature is dead?

I always thought she was essentially playing the same character in "Close Encounters" and "Oh God." In both, her husband was in the middle of some pretty unlikely *beep* and she's torn about believing and supporting him.

She really should have gotten the Amy Madigan role in "Field of Dreams."
