Furlong or DiCaprio?

No contest there. DiCaprio. I know Furlong is likeable and a nice guy and was good looking before his addictions took hold, but even back at his peak in the late 90s there was no way he could have pulled off what DiCaprio did at the same age in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" "This Boy's Life" and "Basketball Diaries." DiCaprio has more range and intensity, by far. He really gets *into* his roles, completely submerged in them, in a way I've never seen with Furlong. It's not even a close call. Just watch this scene with Leo in "Basketball Diaries" to see what I'm talking about:

I can't see Furlong being able to pull this off the way Leo did. And I don't mean to bash Furlong, the guy does still have talent, but it's just to answer the origial poster's question. As good as anybody is there's always somebody out there who's better, which goes for Leo as well. As good as Leo's been in any of his movies you know there's somebody out there who could have done it better. We just didn't get to see it.
