Emilio was a fantastic William H. Bonny, even though he didn't entirely match the physical description of the iconic western outlaw. Both men are and were only 5ft5 but Emilio is better looking than the real man who was pretty ugly. Here's a very old photo of him here:

The movie stuck very close to the facts regarding the history of the man and his band of regulators and Emilio to his credit brought humanity to the on screen character who was portrayed as being a impudent, cocky rogue.
