What the Hell Happened to Emilio Estevez?

http://lebeauleblog.com/2014/11/22/what-the-hell-happened-to-emilio-es tevez/

Emilio Estevez comes from Hollywood royalty. His dad is actor Martin Sheen. His brother is Charlie Sheen. As a child, his best friends were the Penns (Sean and Chris) and the Lowes (Rob and Chad). Estevez grew up immersed in show biz. In the early 80′s Estevez became the de facto leader of the actors of his generation. Collectively, they were known as the Brat Pack and for a short time, they reigned supreme. As the decade ended, there was a backlash against the Pack. Among his colleagues, Estevez held up better than others. But these days, Estevez is rarely heard from.

What the hell happened?

Apparently he lives a quiet life with his family while also making wine.

1) Poor role choices - After the Ducks trilogy Estevez began to take roles which didn't seem to enhance his career. Had he chosen differently, he may have had greater success.

2) He never seemed to be comfortable as a leading actor - In the roles where he was the lead (Wisdom, Freejack, etc.) he seems distinctly out of place.

3) He seems to be a better director than a performer - Even in the late 1980s, Estevez was gravitating towards directing. As he grew older, he drifted more into the role of being a director, rather than an actor.

4) Luck - Much of success in Hollywood is more luck than skill. While his brother experienced his own career doldrums, he was able to return with his now infamous role in the CBS sitcom, Two and a Half Men. Estevez doesn't seem to have been as fortunate.

He didn't inherit the tiger blood. He got crappy duck blood.

reply

I resent that!

reply

Duck blood. Lol

I see what you did there.

Andrew Mccarthy took had the same fate. They're both good actors but they dropped off for whatever reason. Molly Ringwald stayed in the biz but she's nowhere near the star she was.

reply

Are you kidding me? Andrew McCarthy cannot act to save his life!

reply

He's back! I read the other day he's leading the new.....Mighty Ducks movie. lol Well, it's something.

Did you see "The Way" starring him and his dad? That was in 2010 and it was very good, one of my favorite movies.

That movie sucked

A rich, wonderful movie, one that I find quite rewatchable & moving each time I see it.

Me too. Someday I want to go on that pilgrimage, even though I am not Catholic. It is a sign of people who are seriously about life and care about humanity more than money.

reply

I well understand that feeling. While a lapsed but still cultural Catholic myself, I feel the pull of spiritual pilgrimage, a journey that goes beyond money & status & ego.
