With the end of the world. Takes a sick person to devote an entire career to that one theme. Especially when 99% are bad movies nobody remembers.

I saw Indepedence Day and thought it was vastly overrated but reasonably entertaining. Then I saw that awful Godzilla '98. One of the worst movies I'd ever seen. I knew Emmerich was a hack after that. I have never seen a film by him since and I know that I'm missing nothing.
share'Stargate' was the only one he did I thought had a decent original idea, and James Spader is kind of entertaining in it...Spader also thought the script was silly and admitted he only did it for the money
shareI saw Stargate when it came out because in those days I was a huge fan of James Spader from his performance in "sex, lies, and videotape". As sci-fi, I thought it was pretty good at the time.
