How is her performance in ZERO DARK THIRTY ?
And does she have enough screentime?
shareShe's good but it's not my favorite performance of hers. She plays sort of the incompetent female IMO to Chastain's Maya. Decent screen time but her character is based on the real CIA agent Jennifer Matthews if that give you any idea as to how she was written and her fate in the film.
Bigelow is not IMO an actors director. I liked this film better than Contagion, but I liked Jennifer's role in Contagion more than her role in this film.
I liked her in CONTAGION.She and Kate Winslet delivered the best performances of the cast. Will watch ZDT as soon as possible. Thanks for the reply.
shareShe has a substantial role but this is very much an ensemble piece where Jessica Chastain plays the character who links them all.
For the most part I thought Ehle was really annoying - and not because she and JC's character butt heads early on.
Thankfully the writing steers clear of the whole office rivalry thing, but Ehle was just too flimsy for such a hard boiled role.
There's this manic sheen in her eye throughout that makes it hard to root for her or sympathize with her.
In an extremely strong cast, she was my least favorite, sorry to day coz I liked her in Contagion.
I'm relatively new here(haven't posted much) but I have to disagree. I've seen Jenmifer play harder edged characters, her performance in The Chamomille Lawn as Calypso and in Melissa were both good. I didn't like this character much but I'm convinced it was more due to the fact that she was meant to be a contrast to Maya and that contrast meant to mean failure, as if someone with a softer edge couldn't be successful. I don't have a problem with the contrast, and I guess her being older meant she grew up inmamdifferent CIA than Maya did. But I think the agent this role was based n was a mother of 4 small children when she was killed and there has been some controversy over her blame for the bombing that killed 7 people. The family contends it was not her, the CIA, who were the input sources on this film, layer the fault entirely at her feet after the alleged investigation was done.
Overall the film was good, but not my favorite of Bigelows or the year. As for Jennifer, I
L go watch her in Sunshine or Wilde again or even Contagion over this again.
I didn't know anything about the real person whom she was playing but I had guessed early on what was about to happen at camp Chapman based on her performance. Her overexcitement was a tell all. No suspense whatsoever. Her character was pretty annoying throughout the film. But Ehle did a decent job. She delivered all she could to the underwritten role of Jessica. Sometimes there is a feeling that comes across in her performances that she tries too hard like here and in The King's Speech. I liked her the most in Paradise Road, Sunshine and Contagion.
shareAlways likes her look. Very Streep. A poor mans Streep. However thought she was terrible here.
