Defends Tropic Thunder and his role

During an appearance on Rob Lowe’s “Literally!” podcast, Downey Jr. drew a line between “Tropic Thunder” and Norman Lear’s iconic sitcom “All in the Family.”

He said both works shine a light on “tropes that are not right and had been perpetuated for too long” and faced criticism from those who weren’t seeing the bigger picture.

“I was looking back at ‘All in the Family,’ and they had a little disclaimer that they were running at the beginning of the show,” Downey Jr. said about the backlash Lear sitcom’s face for tackling social topics like racism in a way network television never had before. “People should look it up, exactly what it is, because it is an antidote to this clickbait addiction to grievance that [people seem] to have with everything these days.”

Um, Carrol O'Connor wasn't going blackface on the sitcom either RDJ. Big difference

Why wouldn't he defend it? Cancel culture losers need to give it up. Tropic Thunder isn't going away and you can't erase it from history. Robert Downey Jr. will always be a great actor and I hope he wins the Oscar for Oppenheimer.

He should defend it. He did a great job.

He shouldn’t have to defend it. His performance was hilarious and spot on, poking fun at pretentious celebrities and stereotypes. He should be applauded and he was.

Agreed. Tropic Thunder is one of the best comedies I've seen. It took a similar concept from The Three Amigos, and made it even better.
