For me, it's Bob Hughes from Drugstore Cowboy.

Yeah, Drugstore Cowboy is his best. A superb, harrowing performance.

Honourable mentions to Over the Edge, Rumble Fish, Singles and his hilarious turn in There's Something About Mary.

I was talking with someone the other day who wasn't familiar with The Outsiders movie.
I had forgotten MD was in the ensemble but he has made some good movies since.
