Another patronising white male middle-class liberal

Lecturing black people and women on diversity. 

He showed signs of this holier-than-thou attitude during the 2008 US elections when he mocked 'hockey mom' Sarah Palin's bid for the vice-presidency as "like a really bad Disney movie". Yeah, because heaven forfend that a woman, let alone a woman who didn't go to Harvard, should aim for the White House.

I can't say I have much sympathy when a limousine liberal becomes a victim of the very political correctness he or she champions.

I am a social liberal myself, but if you talk the talk you have to walk the walk too. You can't keep criticising people, as Matt Damon does, when you make the same errors.

You might want to revisit what he said about Sarah Palin, because how you just explained it, is NOT the reason for his abject apathy toward her.

He was more concerned that she fervently believed that dinosaurs and man walked the Earth together 6000years ago.

That means shes stupid, not because she didnt goto Harvard, but because she isnt the brightest star in the sky, and frankly, advocating someone that fcking stupid bejng in charge of the US should frighten Americans more than us Europeans.

Shes a clown.

Well I can see it both ways. Palin was clearly not qualified to be VP. But the way the Democrats dug into her specifically was just gleefully cruel and unpleasant to watch. Reminds me of why I'm Independent.

But if Damon wanted to point out her stupidity and complete unsuitability for the role of Veep, why did he have to be so patronising with respect to her 'hockey mom' background and sneer at her journey as some 'bad Disney film'? Doesn't he realise that when he does that he simply confirms the average American's cynicism and distrust towards the privileged, expensively-educated elites who run the country? Instead of sneering at her background, the liberal-left should be looking for intelligent candidates who share Sarah Palin's regular background, or am I the only liberal who doesn't think our leaders should have necessarily attended Harvard in order to be fit for public office?

It sickens me that the so-called liberal left seem to spend too much of their time these days sneering and belittling the very people one would think they were meant to be supporting and representing (i.e. ordinary working and middle class citizens). No wonder the electorate has recently gravitated to purported 'outsiders' and 'mavericks' like Trump and Sanders. I don't necessarily approve of the shift in the parties towards the extreme fringes, but I do understand why it's happening, and it frustrates me that liberal and social democrats, and other progressives and centrists, are doing nothing about it, content instead to keep propping up yet more complacent, patronising and elitist neo-liberal candidates. If they want to reclaim the debate they need to start putting forward regular people as candidates.

But her background is entirely the problem, the wider picture is not only was she deemed fit for VP position, if McCain actually got in, well, hes no spring chicken, if he dies or is incapacitated, shes pushed into the job of President of the United States.........that is the real issue.

Its laughable that shes considered for VP when there is nothing in her background that suggests shes a no brainer for the position.

And Damon wasnt necessarily taking the piss out of "hockey moms" per se, typically in a Disney movie, the mom who suceeds against all odds has one particular skillset and a whole lotta pluck.....that works for a Disney movie, but not for one of the biggest jobs in the world.

Palin doesnt even have enough for a Disney movie, talking toys and talking dogs is one thing, no-one is buying something as far fetched as Palin.

And with respect, if women want equal rights and consideration, then that goes for the politically motivated slanging matches, because there are plenty of male politicians that get given both barrels, and no one is crying on their behalf.

Palin is a hockey mom....who doesnt know a damn about hockey.
