Am I understanding you right that you are basing his mental condition on the way he appeared on film? What he was doing is called acting. He can play and has played a wide range of personality types, some pleasant and some not so much. Like many actors, I think he often finds the roles of odd characters more interesting to play. This would certainly include men with mental problems.

Uhh yeah...it's called "acting" and if you don't know that...well, then, I don't know what to tell you...

Based on all the oddball roles he plays very, very well, I have wondered if he has some.... issues. But either way, he's a terrific actor. I love his work, especially the really weird characters.
