Mel: 1950s vs. 1970s
When Sid Caesar died, dozens of people paid him tribute, particularly noting how his shows were side-splittingly funny without being the least bit vulgar. Mel, of course, was an important part of Sid's writing team. However, as soon as standards of what was socially acceptable slipped in the late 60s, Mel was right there in the forefront of the vulgar, no longer inhibited by archaic notions of good taste. Too bad.
