'Hostiles' Update Thread

Director Scott Cooper and Christian Bale are reuniting on “Hostiles.”

Cooper will write and direct with Bale attached to star. Cooper will also produce with “Black Mass” producer Jon Lesher producing along with Ken Cao, who is also financing the pic.

Plot details are unknown at this time with production rumored to begin in the summer.

Cooper has been weighing several films but when Bale became available after parting ways with the biopic “Ferrari,” the two jumped at the chance to work together. The two also worked together on “Out of the Furnace.”

Bale was recently nominated for an Oscar for “The Big Short.” Cooper is repped by CAA and Bale is repped by WME.

Hostel sounds like a cheap horror movie. 
I also think it's Ken Kao, who produced, financed Knight of Cups.

deadline also called it hostels.

"Sigh" despite knowing that it was going to happen, I was hoping to see him tied to something more high profile and interesting. while the prospect of seeing bale to give another amazing performance as OOTF, I kind of fear for the final quality of the film. guess it is pray that this time Cooper is successful.

we have plot details:
Christian Bale to Battle Comanche Tribes in Scott Cooper’s ‘Hostiles’

John Lesher (“Birdman”) and Ken Kao are producing the indie movie with “Black Mass” director Cooper

Christian Bale just closed his deal to star in HOSTILES, the next writing and directorial effort from Scott Cooper (BLACK MASS, CRAZY HEART). This marks the second time the pair will work together since collaborating on the 2013 film, OUT OF THE FURNACE.

Set in 1892, HOSTILES tells the story of a legendary Army captain, who after stern resistance, begrudgingly agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief and his family back to tribal lands. Making the harrowing and perilous journey from an isolated Army outpost in New Mexico to the grasslands of Montana, the former rivals encounter a young widow whose family was murdered on the plains. Together, they must join forces to overcome the punishing landscape and hostile Comanche tribes that they encounter along the way.

Cooper is directing and producing alongside John Lesher (BIRDMAN, BLACK MASS) and Ken Kao (KNIGHT OF CUPS, THE NICE GUYS). The story is a re-imagining of a manuscript by Oscar(r)-winning screenwriter Donald Stewart, which was written some thirty years ago. Waypoint Entertainment will be financing HOSTILES and the picture will go before cameras in July.

The deal was negotiated for Bale by WME and attorney Carlos Goodman, and for Cooper by CAA and attorney Darren Trattner of Jackoway Tyerman.

The story centers on a Native American-hating soldier, nearing retirement, who is given one last assignment: to escort an Indian chief back to his Montana reservation. In the process, he learns to respect the race he hates.

The script was written by Donald Stewart, who is now deceased. Cooper rewrote the script.
