I want Bale to be in a movie like The Nice Guys

I find Scott Cooper's work interesting and I'm certainly looking forward to Hostiles. A good cast again as well. Not sure what you mean by slow (pacing?), but I have no issues of that type with Cooper.

Malick isn't for everyone, either, but I'm definitely intrigued by Weightless. I absolutely loved the 2 other movies CB did with Malick, so there's that... Can't expect CB to be in Weightless much since he barely worked on it, but I'd watch it anyway.
Actors work with Malick because he's a legend, hugely respected, by all accounts a lovely person, and most actors have a fab time and a unique experience working with him. - I mean I can't imagine why they wouldn't work with him, I'd say for an actor it would be stupid not to - even if they don't like his movies.

However, I very much like the idea of a funny role, I'd be all for a Nice Guys type of thing.

My problem with Hostiles that it sounds like a "been there done that" story. It's going to be a quieter role and feel similar to Dan Evans or Russel Baze. What I'm trying to say is I want Bale to be in a showier role again. Luckily he's only 42 so he's relatively young and has a lot going for him. It's just that I wished that he had more interesting movies to be in.

Didn't you prefer Dan Evan to Dicky Eklund, though? I like both quieter and showier stuff, so I'm fine with both.

I did prefer Dan Evans but Bale doesn't do enough showier roles.

I agree he could do more of them.
