He was compelling in Terminator Salvation, but since then, terribly disappointing. Big Short was awful, American Hustle was ghastly, and Exodus was appalling.

What are you talking about? He was great in all 3 of those films you mentioned. The movie itself might not have been good like Exodus but his character portrayal as Moses was one of the positives from the whole thing. And his other roles in Hustle and Big Short show he can handle different ranges too. He rarely has a bad performance and/or film (i would include terminator in this).
