Anyone here not looking forward to Hostiles?

Seriously not looking forward to The Promise and Hostiles. It's a shame Christian will be in two films that will end up being mediocre at best. Sorry to be a Debbie downer but I don't trust Scott Cooper at all with his films. Acting is always good but all of his films aren't engaging enough.

Not looking forward at all to the Promise. I'm on the fence with Hostiles. I'm looking forward to it because I really wanna it to be good, but at the same time, I know it will be better if I keep realistic expectations, because I don't place a whole lot of faith on Scott either, so if it turns out to be really good, it's going to be a point out of the curve for Scott. Having said that, I still expect it to be a decent movie at least.

I'm just annoyed with Christian Bale for his choices lately. Maybe I'm being selfish but I really wanted him to be in the Star Wars Han Solo movie but he continues to pick boring projects. As a fan that sucks. Maybe I'm not a true supportive fan like others but it sucks when other actors his age are in better projects. Yes the big short was his last good movie which was in dec 2015 but he was barely in the damn movie.

Obviously he does movies for himself and doesn't care if he loses fans since he knows he will have some who will stay by him. I don't know, if his next couple of projects sound boring and uninspired I may just stop watching his films altogether. Oh well I'm only just one fan who expects too much out of his talent 😂

I feel the same. I find myself mostly disapproving of his recent project choices. Sometimes he makes good calls, but for the most part he seems to actively seek uninteresting projects to take part in, it feels like wasted talent. The Star Wars role might have been a good role for him, a comeback to the blockbusters. But I gotta give props to him for staying true to himself and not becoming a sellout, it's just a matter of time before he picks up something interesting again, I guess.

lol "I guess" is right. He's such a paradox. He's in a business where he's going to be in the spotlight yet he's uncomfortable being a leading man? Steve Jobs and Ferrari were movies that was supposed to be all about Bale yet he backed out. Something tells me he's afraid to fail being a One man show. It's like he relies on other actors to eclipse him(except the fighter) and he just happens to be part of the puzzle. If were his agent and manager I would give him a lot of *beep* because Bale has a lot of potential. He had a good streak in 2005-2007 of films. Maybe he should do the Daniel day Lewis route and heavily focus on a big role so that he can take a break. I prefer a quality film with quality acting.

After The Fighter I was hoping he would be in really good and engaging films. Sadly he's been in really mediocre to terrible movies except the big short but like I said earlier he was barely in the damn film

Yes, sometimes it feels like he purposedly shies away from leading roles. I even remember his Golden Globes acceptance speech for The Fighter, in which he praised Mark Wahlberg for playing the subtle, anchor type of character, for which the actor doesn't get the deserved recognition, yet he himself seems to be pretty comfortable in those roles.

reply

I think the machinist, American psycho and the fighter are the only show roles he's done

I'm mildly interested in Hostiles. They can sell it as The Revenant type of film.

Make a move, Reindeer Games..

The star wars movie would be the most boring choice for him to be in. Why would you want him in one of those dime a dozen films? You shouldn't call yourself a fan.
