Not on a roll at the moment?

Now, I love CB, but I wonder if he's not picking the best roles at the recently? A while back I was interested to see him in everything he did, but 'The Big Short' aside, I haven't been tempted by much of his output in the last few years. 'Exodus: Gods & Kings' seemed hopelessly miscast, 'Knight of Cups' sounded right up its own backside and now 'The Promise' gives me the impression of a good opportunity wasted on soapy theatrics. However good he may or may not be in these, they're not appealing much to me as movies.

Just a thought. Not saying he's not talented or delightful to look at - far from it. And that all being said, I AM looking forward to 'Hostiles' next year - love a western, and '3.10 to Yuma' was great!

I'm really hoping hostiles will be good but a lot of Scott cooper's movies are lackluster imo. Black mass had some great acting

You won't find Christian Bale to be like any other working actor. Acting is his job not his lifestyle and he's not a Hollywood star like many of the rest (doesn't stay the public eye, no PR team, doesn't do talk shows even when he has a film in release, doesn't appear at red carpet events for music, award shows etc. He doesn't follow on social media. no seek out the hot top ten in subject matter or actors to do a film with. If he does a film that does well it's gravy but he mainly goes by interest. I think that's why he didn't do another Batman film or any superhero film after Nolan said no to a 4th Batman film. I think that's also why he hasn't done another animated film when it's also the "thing" to do now. He was a fan of Hayao Miyazaki's work. So he did the English dub of 'Howl's Moving Castle'. He passed on films to wait for 'American Psycho' to come back to him. There was no money. Leo wanted 21 mill for a film with a budget of 10 mill. Bale knew the actors the studio wanted would pass because it was about money with most. It was the story and the director for him. Big difference.

Long story short Bale is the man. I just wish that he wasn't so hesitant to do something that he knows would be successful lol

Agreed. The only way I can even begin to respect Bale for doing The Promise (where he plays a 'cuckolded boyfriend' according to one review) is if he was offered - literally - bucketloads of money. The movie looks ridiculous and he looks ridiculous. Why the f... does he pick a movie like this to do? I can totally understand doing the lesser part (like The Big Short). But to pick something like The Promise? GAAAAHHHHHHH!
