Seriously, what is he doing with his career?

Over on IMDB he has a whopping ten movies in post-production! Eight movies came out in 2021.

Does he have mob debts to settle? IRS issues? A major drug habit to sustain? Is he in an unannounced competition with Nic Cage.. which one can star in the most dreck?

Typically, he's only in the movie for ten or fifteen minutes total. He probably films all his scenes in a day or two.

Is he paid lots of money? Yes, I'm sure, relative to the time he puts in.

But does he need the money so badly that he's willing to trash his legacy as a leading action hero in the 80s and 90s? And, let's not forget is that he established himself as a reliable dramatic actor too, outside the action genre.

It's just bizarre to me how much effort he is putting into becoming a Steven Seagal tier joke.

reply

In fairness, Steven Seagal was/is considered a joke for a bunch of reasons; even in the 90s there were plenty of people making fun of him.

People remember Willis for Die Hard, Pulp Fiction, The Fifth Element, etc., nothing is going to overshadow those roles.

I think if he had rushed headlong into nonstop mediocre, forgettable films back in the 90s, then yeah his reputation would have suffered, not so much nowadays. It hasn't really impacted his reputation like it has for Nicolas Cage.

reply

"It hasn't really impacted his reputation like it has for Nicolas Cage."

I'd say the opposite. At least Cage makes the occasional movie that's so batshit crazy that it gets attention. Willis' roles are usually confined to sitting at a desk. I assume that's where they post his lines so he can recite them as he 'acts'.

"The movies are (mostly) back, but if you’re still wary about venturing into a movie theater, Bruce Willis is near-singlehandedly keeping the straight-to-streaming flowing with a steady release of generic actioners that are not doing his legacy any favors. "
-- Vulture.com

"He used to be the biggest action star in the world. But for the last decade he's appeared in a slew of VOD trash like Hard Kill that not even he wants to watch."
-- Esquire

"If you take a look at Bruce Willis' IMDb page now and the work he's done in past couple of years, it's littered with straight-to-video clunkers... The list goes on, almost all of them receiving poor reviews and largely ignored by audiences alike."

I think he's just cashing in as big as he can while still able bodied. He's 66. He ain't gonna be running around making movies too much longer.

reply

Working. Making money.

Streaming, which the public clamored for and started supporting more than theaters and cable, make their own movies now. He's just going where the work is. His time as a movie tough guy is coming to a close. He knows it, we know it. He's making as much as he can while he still can.

reply

The guy has a net worth of 1/4 of a billion dollars. Does he really want to trash his legacy for money that he realistically doesn't need? (Rhetorical question.)

Stallone has dipped his toe into the VOD market a bit, but he's mostly sticking to guest starring in high profile stuff that is maintaining his legendary status... Creed, recurring role in Guardians of the Galaxy, Suicide Squad, a new Expendables... He's being actively approached for these roles.

Willis just seems to be fading away and I used to like this guy so much.

reply

Are you saying you don't like Die Hard, 5th Element, Pulp Fiction. etc because he makes bad movies now?

reply

I probably wouldn't go see a movie of his today, DESPITE Die Hard, etc.

reply

Bruce should have the typical famous old actor rebound, get all those grandfather/wise old man roles before he finally retires. That'll be a solid decade.

reply

He is leaving his mark in film history. The guy is pretty close to the average life expectancy of men, he does not have alot of years left.

reply

"IRA issues?"
What's he got to do with the Irish Republican Army? Besides, they've long disbanded.

reply

Oops... Canadian here mixing up my alphabet. It's the CRA up here, IRS down in the US.

reply

Yeah, I guessed it was the IRS, I was just fucking with ya!

reply

See how Bruce behaved with Kevin Smith during DIE HARD 4's filming....
Kevin is by no means a saint, but what he said about Bruce, and the way he actually worshipped Bruce beforehand, much as I and many others did, but was awoken to the harsh reality that Bruce Willis is a douche tool!

I go back to Moonlighting... loved the guy then, loved him in the nineties, but when 4 came out, I saw the failures.... I saw how WEAK he looked as the "lead" in that film, and then to hear what KS said about how lazy he is....

It's heart-breaking. I grew up on Bruce Willis. LOVED THE FIRST DIE HARD AND THE SECOND!!! IDK wtf was with 3.... looked like they edited it with a steak knife and a fork!

But moving on....

Learning Bruce was a fkn republican just sealed the deal. I don't care wtf Bruce does now. He's horrible. Won't work out for a role, won't lift a finger... just thinks his "cool" is all that's required....

NOBODY IS THAT FUCKING GOOD. And fewer still could carry that persona without any sort of backlash.

reply

"Learning Bruce was a fkn republican just sealed the deal. "

This is soooo soft.

reply

Frankly people like you are what's destroying our country. Thinking that democrats are the good guys and Republicans are all the bad guys is just wrong! And it's destroying our country! Republicans and Democrats should try to get along but you are for a Civil War!

reply

Nowhere in that post did I state that "democrats are good".

It's funny how you see "the left" doing it, you see immigrants doing it, but never do you see the biggest ones doing it... the fox news folks... with their texts saying this is INSURRECTION, then going on AIR and saying "it's the dumbocrats!!! ANTIFA!!! AND BLM!!!"

Bruce is a lazy bastard who wants to COAST on his rep...

Ain't that what ted cruz does...? matt gaetz too...?!

"Don't look at what I actually do, look at what I REPRESENT!!!!" (white privilege)

I would love if we got along, but that requires THE RIGHT TO GIVE, and they don't give for shit! THEY ARE RIGHT AND EVERYONE WHO DISAGREES IS WRONG!

Fuck conservatives!

One of the dems does something stupid like harrassing a female on a junkit, even if it's just a joke, we get rid of him... Y'all act like the fuckers are messiahs... or you disregard it completely...

Like that tool who was all against LGBTQ.... making legislation against them.... then he's begging for dick in an airport bathroom....

Republicans do just as much, if not MORE to RUIN AMERICA!

reply

I myself am a Christian conservative and though I don't agree with someone being gay, I do think they have the right to reject God and choose to be gay. We are guaranteed by the constitution freedom of religion, which means anyone can choose to believe or not believe in God. If someone wants to reject God and be gay they can choose to do so and face God for that decision after they die.

However my right to think that is being jepradized by leftist politicians like Alexandria Cortez. She and others like her think I should not be allowed to believe in what the bible says.

I don't agree with every republican and frankly don't watch the news at all anymore because everything reported that is political makes me mad. Plus a majority of the media are very much guilty of saying things that aren't true.

I've just shut myself off from the majority of the world and frankly I pray to God everyday about all the terrible things going on in the world. Frankly I can't wait til I die someday and can be away from those who hate God and his word and who despite me telling them make it clear they'd rather risk going to Hell than to believe in God and his ways.

reply

You're a dick. Bruce Willis does not need you, your opinion or even your money. Get off this site and throw your temper tantrum somewhere else. So you fell con to Hollywood's oldest game. What a moron.

reply

So I've seen some articles and online chatter saying that Bruce Willis is suffering from dementia or is in the early stages of it. That's depressing.

reply

Possibility, though it's hard to tell given his regular demeanor. He's long been reputed to be an immense pain in the ass on set. Entirely possible, if not altogether probable: His movies quit turning a profit, and Hollywood washed their hands of him first opportunity they got

reply

He should just retire.
