Did Liv's voice hold her back from becoming a bigger star?

When I was reading comments about Liv's new TV show, 9-1-1: Lone Star, I came across this:

I've only liked Liv in Harlots. Her breathy whispering made sense. Where she was an aristocrat trapped by the rules of society in the Georgian era and by her sadistic psychopath of a brother. Here, breathy whispering doesn't work.

Well, except Liv Tyler. Was she really the best person to audition for the role? Because she is ...not great. I don't remember her being this bad. But then again, the only role I can really remember her in was Arwen in Lord of the Rings. I thought she was fine in that, but maybe being an Elf simple worked well with her particular acting abilities. I just found her sex-phone voice delivery really distracting.

Second, what the hell is Liv Tyler doing? Why is she so breathy, even in really intense life or death situations? I have liked her in other things, but I guess some directors are able to use her breathy, dainty style of acting to their advantage, and some double down on it, to not so epic results, and I can already see which one this will be.

The thing about Liv Tyler is that she is a very specific type of character actress. You can't just plug her into any role, and this is not the role for her. I concur she is the weakest link here.

I have liked Liv Tyler in everything I've seen her in before (LoTR & Armageddon basically) but I agree with others that she just doesn't fit in this role. She is sometimes speaking with an almost seductive?? breathy whisper (outside of her normal breathy whisper, I mean) and it is very distracting.

I agree with everyone else re: Liv Tyler. She has the acting range of a wet noodle! Watching her treat these victims/patients is the most unrealistic part...and for this show, that's saying A LOT!

Yeah, Liv Tyler has this breathy-whispery way of speaking that does not lend itself to authority. She sounds more like a porn actress.
