Will he be cancelled?
He hit a black man on stage at one of the wokest events going. How can that not destroy your career?

shareBlack on black crime.
shareSame category as gang violence. Ignore it.
shareIf he was a white guy who did this the blacks would be rioting in the streets by now.
shareSo you are suggesting that if bill maher was on stage and joked jennifer lopez's ass was getting bigger that black people would riot if Ben Affleck jumped up and slapped him?
shareAre you braindead? No one you mentioned is black.
shareAre YOU braindead? In the comment I replied to, the poster is comparing apples to oranges to make some sort of stupid racial point of a false equivalence and trying to make a point that is not there.
It would be different if the original act dealt with black and white performers and then the comment would have been valid.
The point he's making is that if either of them would've been white, it would be handled TOTALLY differently. Shouldn't be that way but it is. IMHO, Will Smith should've been escorted off premises at the very least.
shareI agree that Smith should have been removed immediately and Hollywood's failure to do so will be another strike against its hypocrisy, but it is too big to care.
But do you really think that if say a Kevin Costner slapped a comic like Norm MacDonald anything would have been handled differently? I don't. I don't even think it would have been different if this had been between two female performers of equal stature. But I do believe that if different aspects were thrown in, then things may have been done differently.
For example, if a Costner slapped a Chris Rock, oh yes. Or if a man slapped a woman (I think if a woman slapped a man then the place would have erupted in complete support).
But to toss out there two white men, nah, things wouldn't have been handled differently (that is unless the person slapped was an overwhelmingly loved person by all and the person slapped was resoundingly hated).
I said "either" of them, not both of them. We're talking about one black and one white, in either position. God forbid a white guy got up and slapped a black guy.
shareWell if it wasn't a staged publicity stunt then by Woke standards he should be cancelled. But I'm pretty certain he won't be.
He won’t be. The standing ovation he received minutes later pretty much demonstrates that Hollywood has his back. He also had the Church of Scientology behind him, and they are quite a force too.
shareIt seems his days of being a box office draw as an actor are already long gone, in fact I'd say it's the same for all actors now. Now it's all about established franchises and nostalgia. For example back in 2004 I,Robot was a box office success whereas 2019's Gemini Man was a box office bomb.
Yet 2020's Bad Boys 3 was a box office success due to an established fanbase and nostalgia for the previous films yet King Richard flopped. It's why Smith is remaking The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and making a Bad Boys 4 and I Am Legend 2 because gone are the days where people would go and see I, Robot just because it's a new Will Smith film. As an actor his name alone will not put butts in cinema seats anymore.
To me it seems like he needs to take another break from acting for a while and he definitely needs to divorce that toxic wife of his.
