He's right. They're garbage aimed at the lowest common denominator.

There's a reason why comic book movies are more popular than comic books ever were. Most of the Dumb Masses (say it fast) who stand in line to see these movies have never read a comic book in their lives, and could not understand the continuity or the layering of many of the stories. I grew up reading comic books and these movies do not translate well from the page at all.

I never thought of that.

reply

Yeah but people said the same about Universal Monster movies in the 40's and Jame bond movies of the 60's. Its just the same long song and dance of pretentious people acting as gate keepers of what can and can't be art.

The guy has his opinion like the rest of us on what cinema is. No reason to freak out about what he thinks if you ask me. Why? because Marvels movies are going to continue to do just fine regardless of what he says.

This story will eventually (if it hasn't already) sizzle and we'll all carry on doing our thing.

reply

They make money for the most part.

reply

Which is why they're doing just fine.

reply

I agree and it seems like RDJ thinks that way too.
At least that’s how I interpreted his answer.

Watch it and tell me if you disagree on how i interpreted his opinion : it was like I respect him but I disagree and he he has the right to say what he feels no big deal.

I wouldn't put it that way but I certainly understand what he's getting at.

reply

I see them as an extension of video games. Maybe I'm just old.

I agree with Marty, the man is a God of the cinematic world, when he speaks us lesser mortals should listen.

reply

Nah Stanley Kubrick and Alfred Hitchcock are God of the cinematic world. Marty is like there busboy.

reply

I watch them when they reach tv but I don't get amped up for their release.

Comic book movies are cinema, and sometimes they're fun (all the time, for some fans). The public has become obsessed with them, and the studios keep pumping them out for the money. It has become tiresome. Maybe we should move on to the next thing--at least give it a rest for awhile.

reply

they still make money.

reply

Yes, they make money. There's more to it than money, though.

reply

Most of Scorsese movies about assholes. So obvious having characters doing something heroic. Is not cinema to him.

reply

Its nice see that Scorsese fans are just as pretentious as he is.

saw this on yahoo news/

I think hes got another kind of mind control, hes an actor,
he was talking about it in a way that we don't talk about it.
