Hughes wasn't angry at her because she turned down the role in Some Kind of Wonderful. He wanted to make a lot of movies with Molly as the lead. But Ringwald turned all of them done to do non-Hughes projects. This is what Molly has said recently: ''John was one of the most sensitive people I've ever known. It comes across in his movies. But when you're that sensitive, you are wounded very easily,'' Ringwald says. ''He was wounded, really by us growing up in a way. If he had it his way, he would have kept making movie after movie with me and [Anthony Michael Hall], and nothing would ever have changed. But it's very suffocating, as wonderful as it is. I would have loved to have gone and done movies with other people and then come back and done some more movies with him and gone on like that. But that wasn't okay with John. He just wanted intense loyalty.''
So I guess her arrogance destroyed her career. When you reach a certain level of success and eminence, most actors think they're too good for certain things and can reject any prospective big role by a major studio regardless of the substance and depth of the project and anticipation. The problem is, when she turned down roles like Pretty Woman, she destroyed her career. She should have accepted those roles instead of playing around. She could have gotten engaged and gone to France after doing Pretty Woman but she was just too damn arrogant. She didn't really have the talent or merit to reject those roles so I guess we shaped her into an arrogant, spoiled brat. She's learned her lesson now but she had such potential. She's more talented than Julia Roberts, though both have limited talent to be honest.
