Is something wrong with this one, The Godfather at number 21 for 1972? Box office? Wasnt it Numner one?

Thank you, it was #2 correcting now.

I like all of your posts for all stars so I'll stop here with any further quibbling, but:

The Godfather was Number Two for 1972? I thought it was Number One -- the highest grossing movie ever for a few years til Jaws beat that...and then Star Wars beat THAT.

Therefore...what WAS Number One for 1972, might I ask?

reply

The Poseidon Adventure starring Gene Hackman, Ernest Borgnine, Shelly Winters

I use The Numbers website for the default box data. IMDB includes re-releases in it's calculations, which is why The Godfather is #1 on that site. IMDB will usually have more data on box rankings so prior to 1995 I will use it if the movie cannot be found on The Numbers.

Excellent and...makes sense.

I see these changes from time to time.

The "production sequel" to The Poseidon Adventure -- The Towering Inferno of 1974 with the same producer(Irwin Allen) and even bigger stars(McQueen, Newman, Dunaway, and Holden) was listed as Number One for 1974 for many years(I thought) but...has been replaced(I think?) by Blazing Saddles.

Makes sense.

Cars updated 5/17/23

The Numbers now has The Godfather (72) as #1 box and has been so changed. (**The website notes that the box office totals prior to 1977 could be from 2 or more years after initial release)
