With the evolution of technology in filmmaking, George Lucas felt it necessary to make many revisions to the original trilogy that no one asked for.

1. Changing the Boba Fett voice in Empire.

2. Vader scream in Jedi.

The Vader shuttle addition in the middle of the final chase of The Empire Strikes Back is the worst. It didn't only ruin the pacing of the chase, but also ruined the introduction of the shuttle in the beginning of Return of the Jedi.

plenty of other filmmakers release director's cuts, extended cuts, etc.

no one cries about those

Usually most have access to the originals unlike George did with his updates. You couldn't get the original films and we were stuck with his updates. The updates didn't enhance the film. It just showed advancements in CGI.

Had the original films without the updates been available just as much as the new editions, there would be less animosity.

Yeah, because the alternative versions are usually an option and the original works aren't erased from existence like Star Wars trilogy. Sure, someone like Chaplin revisited his works later on, but Lucas ain't Chaplin kind of genius. Hell, he didn't even direct The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

Most of the time we can still watch the original cut. In order to watch the original star wars we have to find a VHS from the early 90s.

It’s not Han shot first, it’s Han was the only one to shoot. Greedo never got a shot off in the original.
