How come Diane Lane never truly became an A-list star?

She always seems to be on the brink of stardom, and then it doesn't happen. And her time has passed now.

I think there's a small window of opportunity to make the A list and Diane chose one too many films which had a lot of promise but ended up flopping.

I also agree with Artisan above, a lot of her roles/films were too edgy and didn't get mainstream attention.

I also wonder if all the nude scenes and sex scenes affected her career for the worse.

Most of the Best Actress Oscar winners and nominees since 1970 have been naked and/or had sex on screen so it isn’t that.

In fact, critical darling directors love actresses willing to fully commit to a role, including nudity.

That is, until small groups of people started using metoo to twist the use of consensual nudity into something misogynistic that “demeans” women (which is BS).

Good question. Becoming a huge hit and an A-list star in Hollywood is just as much luck as it is talent, so it’s tough to say.

Diane turned down what became Daryl Hannah's role in Splash, and Gwyneth Paltrow's role in Shakespeare in Love. Also, Diane's father didn't want her to play Rebecca De Mornay's role in Risky Business.

Deciding who is really "A" list, who is "B" list and who is "Z" List , as if there are actual lists somewhere that decide what category every celebrity is in.

It's idiotic. You're not even talking about who are the best actors or actresses.

You're just making useless lists , like People magazine, or Rolling Stone does, who's the "Sexiest man alive" or who's the "Best Dressed". The entire discussion is idiotic, that's all I have to say about it.
