So is Lion eligible for Aacta`s this year as well ,it is an Australian film isn`t it ?. Nice she won , although i think her being an aussie helped seeing Mel Gibson won Director as well .

The AACTA award nominates actors in both Australian movies and international ones. So even if Lion was not an Australian movie she would still be able to be nominated. I believe she was nominated back in the day for the Golden Compass even though that film was not Australian but it was in a different category.
This year Nicole won Supporting Actress but it was the international awards. The Australian award was won by Miranda Otto in The Daughter.
Why they make international awards that have nothing to do with Australia? I don't know. I guess it is to get a piece of the cake during awards season and get exposure and attention to get more funding to make films in Australia I guess.
I also don't understand what criteria they follow to consider a film Australian. Lion for all we know should be an Australian film. I think it's the fact that it has not been released in Australia so they could not nominate it there?
The fact that she's Australian has not helped Nicole. Years ago she was nominated for Moulin Rouge when the awards were only Australian and she actually lost to another actress. And this was supposed to be one of the best performances of her career. She was also snubbed for Strangerland last year even though she gave a great performance. The last time she won this award was in 1989 and it was in the TV category (back then it was called AFI)
Mel Gibson is not Australian and not so long ago Australia wanted nothing to do with him. It's only now that he's made a good film and some type of comeback that he's been praised. Very sad. I am glad his film is getting so much praise,

I meant her being an aussie helped her win ,i was meaning to say i found it strange she won seeing she hasn`t won any other awards or hardly being nominated ,I thought maybe she won because she was an aussie , like how the Bafta`s tend to reward a brit when they haven`t won any other award . I`m sure Nicole is deserving and i`m glad she won , as you say she `s hasn`t been recognised by the Aus film industry since 89. I know Mel Gibson isn`t Australian , but we still seem to claim him as one but again he hasn`t won any other critics award so strange why he won then , sure it`s the voters choice and they voted to what they thought was deserving .
If Lion is an Aus film then i`m sure it will get nominated for this year`s Aacta awards, i just found it strange how it was up for international awards if it is an Aus film. Bafta`s do have a seperate category for best british film but still nominate british films with international films for Best film.

YAY for her but these are actually the International AACTAs, they are like the americanized version of the real AACTAS. I think Lion did not get any nod there because it had not been screened in Australia when these were announced.

she needs a better stylist pronto, especially in the hair and makeup department.

but Yay for the win, I think this is her first International AACTA award!

Also there are some pictures of her hanging out with Lee Daniels and David O Russell.

Haha, the hair worries me too. It has seen better days, I agree.

she;'s straightened and bleached it to death, so its very damaged and to be honest there is very little she can do with it. She should just shave it all off and wear a wig.
