The rescue workers

I am no expert on fire extinguishing and I certainly don't want to trash the fire fighters. But watching that video, I wonder why it took almost thirty minutes to get her out of that car. If I have a person inhaling toxic fumes, trapped in a car, wouldn't it be reasonable to pull her out there at any cost? Use an axe, smash the rear window, get her out asap.

You got a lot of nerve, trashing the fire fighters, especially when you admitted you're no expert. How dare you

reply

seriously stop treating them like gods

reply

You're right. I won't stick up for fire fighters ever again. Instead, I will treat celebrities like gods. Thanks. I will feel a lot better now

L.A. has a big-league fire department, one of the best trained and most experienced in the world. I suspect there is a sound reason for their actions. There was an active fire and maybe the risk of a structural collapse. They probably had to prioritize at least stabilizing those threats before being able to safely extract her from the car.

reply

Well - it didnt work obviously. House is destroyed completely and she died.

reply

Well, it might have. Fires spread very quickly, even from house to house. Their efforts probably prevented the immediate neighboring houses from going up in flames. They also might not have been able to get to her immediately with fire raging and metal and steel crushing inward due to the crash. Bottom line is Heche caused a huge disaster that could have been even worse. Thanks to dumb luck or maybe someone upstairs, there were no other deaths and no additional damage.

reply

Right, and they extracted her and got her to a trauma center. At least gave her a small chance to survive.

👍

I wonder that too. I wish firefighter department representative would just clear things and say why it took so long so that there wouldnt be theories.

It was an hour in a small 1 floor apartment. How could they get her out for whole hour? Did they put oxygen mask on her? Each one of them have it. Why couldnt they pull that car with their own big car?

reply

You may be onto something there with your big car pulling the little car idea.

reply

Pulling a vehicle that was as smashed up as Heche's could be deadly for the person trapped inside. Any little movement could cause crushed metal and steel to injure someone worse. I'm sure the first responders did the best that they could do, given the disaster they faced.

"Gee, why didn't we think of that? This moviechat guy is real smart!" - the firefighters
