- Both were among the best director of their time.
- Both were blacklisted by Hollywood as directors.
- After being blacklisted, both kept working as actors to pay the bills.

I don't remember Orson Welles making derogatory comments about Jews though.

Obviously. Back then, making derogatory comments about Jews was not taboo in US. Blacklisting happens when you break the official or non-official taboos in each period.
