Oscar: Gere never nominated, DiCaprio a 5 times nominee??

Can't help to compare these two: what's the Academy's problem with Gere? His best roles are clearly up there with Leo's best, plus he's been around since the Seventies.

I agree. He was excellent in An Officer and a Gentleman.
