Why such a sucessful career?

What tricks did he use?

It's easier to understand Tom Hanks: Handsome, tall, relatable appeal and prepared to portray any sort of character.

reply

Back to the Future was a starmaker. Considering that, his career maybe underperformed.

reply

And getting that role was such a break.

reply

Jennifer Aniston was nobody before "Friends", you should see her in Leprechaun and Julie Brown (Wilson Phillips): Lucky Day Music Video, totally unremarkable, a run of the mill pretty girl.

I think the right role makes stars.

reply

And that was a result of being on the successful Family Ties. An excellent job of matching role (Alex) to actor.

reply

Yeah, I think if Justine Bateman did not lose her looks, she would have been big too.

reply

Fox intentionally or otherwise was the center of the show on Family Ties. Not the case with Bateman. Bateman also was rumored to have substance abuse problems which did not help her. She had her looks into the 1990's but I will admit her looks seriously declined from the mid-1990's into today. Anyways, all the other FT actors success paled in comparison to Fox. Michael Gross who played the father tried roles against type but found he was readily typecast as Steven Keaton.

reply

I, and millions of others, found him very likable on screen. Teen Wolf, Back To The Future, Family Ties…He’s really good, it’s a shame he’s been very ill.

reply

That's an interesting way to avoid saying that you like him because he's Canadian.

reply

Who doesn’t like Canadians you Hoser, eh?

Now let’s go to Tim Hortons and play some hockey.

reply

Sorry!

reply

?

reply

You fogot to add the classic Canadian apology!

reply

Ha!
Quite right, you got me there.

Nice people up North:)

reply

They must be, I'm not even from North America and their reputation preceeds them!

reply

That sounds like a great idea. A hockey rink inside a Tim Horton's.

reply

Awesome, pick me up on your Moose tomorrow, you drive and I’ll buy the pancake breakfast😃

reply

watch his documentary

reply

He's likable and has had absolutely no controversy in his career.

reply

Likeable characters or personally?

reply

Both.

reply

Personally. I like him in Spin City but his character is a jerk.

reply

He's simply likeable and easy to relate to with no controversy in his personal life like many stars have.. He keeps a low profile and most likely prefers to stay out of the limelight, Parkinson's withstanding..

reply

He has a charm to him. Some folks have it, some don't.

reply

He always seemed very confident.

reply

Well, one has always believed at least 50% of what happens to you in life is pure luck. Fox was lucky. He was in the right place at the right time for "Family Ties" and the "Back to the Future" trilogy.

He wasn't lucky with his health. At this point in time, one doesn't understand why he keeps going out there. He recently did an interview. I didn't see the interview, so I don't know why he did it. I suppose maybe for Parkinson's research.

reply

No tricks. To me, Michael J. Fox has a lot more appeal to him than Tom Hanks does, at least now.

reply

I'd sooner watch Michael J Fox than Tom Hanks any day.

reply

Tom Hanks did have a lot of charisma back in the day and picked some great roles, but Michael J. Fox maintained that charisma that Hanks seems to be missing now.
