How did she explode so early and so fast?

Cameron Diaz's career between about 1994 and 2002 was just an absolutely insane collection of massive box office and critical successes one after the other.

-The Mask (1994)

-She's the One (1996)

-My Best Friend's Wedding (1997)

-There's Something About Mary (1998)

-Being John Malkovich/Any Given Sunday (1999)

-Charlie's Angels (2000)

-Shrek/Vanilla Sky (2001)

-Gangs of New York (2002)

Each of these movies was a major box office ad/or critic success. There's also The Last Supper and Very Bad Things which are quite famous although they didn't perform particularly well.

I posted on another thread that she made an appearance on Top Gear (2012 ish) and one of her answers to a question suggested she might have done "favours" for films execs (or whoever)

Most of those are ensemble movies or star driven (like The Mask). Her and her management chose well.

Did she ever have a successful movie she carried? I don't know. If you count Knight and Day, I consider that a Tom Cruise movie.

The Last Supper didn't get good reviews.

She played the title character in There’s Something About Mary.
