So promising in the first half of the 90's

I was just a kid in the 90's, but remember how big she was after Thelma & Louise and then even bigger after A League Of Their Own. What the hell went wrong? She was such a promising and goodlooking actress back then.
Did she make the wrong choices careerwise? Didn't she get any good offers? I doubt the latter since based on her popularity.

Most say it was her marriage to Renny Harlin. He directed her in Cutthroat Island and A Long Kiss Goodnight. I happen to REALLY enjoy the latter. It's a very underrated action film. It's such a shame she couldn't go on to do more action films, especially with her physique and height.

Cutthroat Island was a colossal failure, and the film bankrupted the studio that produced it. It's then assumed that it's failure caused a huge stain on Geena Davis' career as a leading lady, therefore, her next film, A Long Kiss Goodnight, that was also directed by Harlin, ended up under performing.

Hollywood was very, very unforgiving of these bombs, so she was then seen as box-office poison, and could never open a film with her name only. They're also unforgiving when actresses hit the big 4-0. I guess that's why she went on to do ensemble family films like the Stuart Little series. She also had her own series that was cancelled after one season. She was also given a second chance with Commander in Chief, which was met with very positive reviews until it came back from its hiatus. Ratings plummeted and the show was then cancelled. I think if the show were on now, it would have soared and heavily praised.

If Geena is happy with not working, then I think that's great if she's doing her own thing outside of Hollywood. However, if she isn't getting plum roles, I hope someone can write something good for her on one of the Premium channels. She would do well in something like VEEP or Homeland.

*beep* happens and then you live.

Thank you for the info/explanation. It's a shame, she could have been so much bigger, she was really impressive in both T&L and ALOTO.
