Other reason why lost for A Beautiful Mind?
Besides the obvious politics of that night (Denzel won just because Sidney did) did Crowe make a mistake before the Oscars? Like Norbit did for Eddie Murphy? Just curious.

shareWho knows. There have been guesses. The bafta awards had just happened and that was where he was pissed at a producer. It was all over the media. That just made him more pissed because he said they made a huge deal of it. He wins tons of awards for ABM then he gets to the Oscars and loses.
shareMaybe because that film, as well as Crowe himself, blows?
shareYou're a nutbag.
shareThe movie was one of the best in his career. It was totally different role for him and he nailed it.
shareCrowe should have won the oscar for ABM that year: He is the film .
I am sure that due to his behaviour at the Bafta´s that year , he wasn´t awarded the Oscar, but he deserved it.
He may be sometimes difficult , critical.... but I think that he has been generally treated by the media badly, I mean that there was a time when the media were more interested in his behaviour tan in his artistic qualities. An example is, for me, when he was arrested for throwing a mobile at the Clerk of a Hotel in New York in 2005: the image of Crowe arrested was everywhere, and I also think that, due to this, he wasn´t even nominated to an Oscar for Cinderella Man, released in 2005, where he portrays the bóxer Jim Braddock in a superb way.
I also think that, since then, he hasn´t made very very good films, but this fact may have to do with his feeling disappointed for not being recognized as an actor as well as before.

Frankly the only one treated badly over that incident was the clerk.
The problem was less the media focussing on his abysmal offscreen behaviour and more that his onscreen work got worse after he won the Oscar as he did most of his acting when the camera wasn't rolling. His most impressive work is all pre-Gladiator.
"Security - release the badgers."
I think that the Clerk incident was exagerated.
You forget Master and Commander, Cinderella Man, American gangster.
