An Oscar for Gladiator?

Seriously? I could understand it for A Beautiful Mind (because of the topic) or LA Confidential (great performance,) but Gladiator, though a good movie, is far from what I'd consider an Oscar worthy role IMHO.

Brothers should be close, don't you think?

They must have felt he was snubbed for not winning for The Insider. Little did they know he'd be doing an even more worthy performance with Beautiful Mind. He did have a major impact on making Gladiator what it was though. He came up with so many ideas as the script was being redone on a daily basis. Someone like The Rock would not have gotten this film a best picture Oscar.

I felt the same way towards Denzel Washington for Training Day. Great actor in just another run of the mill actioner.

I felt Russel Crowe's performances were better in A Beautiful Mind and Cinderella Man.

Cinderella Man; he was great in that one.

I think he deserved his Oscar for Gladiator. In fact, he also deserved it for A Beautiful Mind but academy gave it to Denzel just to make up for their mistake for not awarding the Oscar to him for Malcolm X back in 1992. Crowe surely gave a better performonce than Denzel that year.

Russell Crowe also won the Oscar for A Beautiful Mind. He won 2 years in a row. Gladiator first.

He did not win for A Beautiful Mind.

Ah sorry. My bad. I thought he won 2 years in a row for some reason.

I felt he was robbed for not getting it for Beautiful Mind. Very classy guy though. When asked how he felt about Denzel getting his Oscar, he responded "it's not mine, it's his."

Personally I wonder if it was politics. Hanks had just gotten back to back Oscars and they didn't want to repeat it again.
