Why are half of her film credits cartoon voices?

I just saw "High School High" on TV. The movie as a whole was somewhat of a gut-wrenching experience, but Tia Carrere was the entire reason I watched the whole thing. She's beautiful, period.

I thought it was fascinating that practically half of Tia Carrere's film credits are for voice talent for animated films. She's got the voice for it, but she's completely gorgeous, and I'd love to see her in more live-action films. It just seems like a shame to hide her face behind a cartoon character.

Voice work pays extremely well for relatively little effort. Voice actors get paid thousands of dollars per episode for tv cartoons and can often do an entire 20 episode season in one or two days. Big payday for a couple of days work. Animated movies can also pay well, depending on the studio, but may take longer to record the voice-overs for. But still worth the money for the effort required.

Not only that, she's REALLY good at it. She walks a fine line of being able to not sound flat like some actors (Julia Roberts in Charlotte's Web comes to mind) but not so over the top that it's sound like a stereotypical zanny character. (Think Jim Cummings. Not to knock Jim, I'm just giving two ends of a spectrum.)

Her voice work in Lilo and Stitch is still some of my favorite. Her singing to Lilo was very heartfelt.

The short answer is, she has a really great voice. She did the voice for the Martian Queen in Duck Dodgers perfectly.
