But you cannot play the Latin lover at 60 years old. I dont see myself this way. I dont have anything against firemen, but if I play a fireman five times in my life, I dont like them any more. Its that simple. Do I have anything against the fire department? No! I just want to play more. I think there are more people in life, more circumstances, and more characters that I would love to play, that I think I can do.

I'm so glad Banderas is evolving in his ideas about what roles are most worth playing and that he's getting more discriminating in the process. Case in point: excusing himself from that Expendables 2 dreck by saying he didn't have the time! Ha. I take this as a sign of creative renewal and wouldn't be surprised if the best is yet to come from this talented, sensitive actor.
